We pride ourselves on providing an outstanding learning environment which is engaging and stimulating as we believe children learn through play and therefore encourage exploration of a variety of activities and areas.
Within the setting we uphold the standards of the Early Years Statutory Framework and implement these in our everyday practice. We support the Montessori ethos to empower children’s learning in their own way and at their own pace. The team consists of qualified practitioners with various experiences and knowledge of theorists and methods that aid them in their daily practice whilst striving towards the nurturing of the child’s natural joy of learning.
We believe that by being a small setting we are able to provide intimate quality care to the children and their families through developing positive relationships as the foundation of a great start to your child’s learning journey.
Children explore and investigate the world around them and the objects within using all their senses within a variety of activities to enrich their learning opportunities.
Practical life activities are exercises the child can learn to enable them to do living activities in a purposeful way. At Hopscotch we do this through; cooking/baking, washing up, pouring, setting the table and other practical activities.
Cultural activities include exploration of science, geography, history and of people, cultures, religions and different communities.
Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves
Emotional development encompasses children's self esteem, independence and ability to become capable and resilient individuals with a curiosity for the world around them and a love for learning.
Physical development includes moving and handling, within both fine and gross motor skills. Physical development also involves children learning about good health and practicing health and self-care routines to support their independence.
Within the same umbrella as cultural, factual learning includes exploration of the world and experimental learning opportunities such as in areas; zoology, botany and physics.
Creative development includes expressive arts and design, making, building, creating, singing, dance and drama.
Children learn about mathematics in fun and creative ways, learning about shape, space and measure and numbers supporting problem solving skills.
Social development is key to children’s overall health and welfare. Social development includes; self-confidence and self-awareness, managing feelings and behaviour and making relationships.

To provide a happy, caring, safe and stimulating child orientated environment for every child in which each can explore and learn freely.
Breakfast club: A nutritious breakfast is provided for the children, afterwards we have some morning free play and a few table activities if time permits.
Once the children arrive they enjoy a mixture of free play and purposeful teacher-led activities for an hour arranged by the teachers to support the children within their areas of interest/development.
We enjoy a morning fruit snack and some fresh drinking water/milk.
We have group time with our key person doing activities of a broad range which has been purposefully planned in line with the children's interests and/or any special events.
We usually go outside to play either in the garden or visit our local park for a walk/nature hunt or play in the playground.
All children are served with a hot and nutritious lunch made by our in-house Chef
A mixture of free-play activities and ‘quiet time’ for those who need some time to unwind from a busy morning of activities, this includes stories, board games and IPAD time for educational games.
Mixture of free play, outdoor play (whether in the garden or to a local park) and teacher-led activities. At around 2.15pm we would have an afternoon snack of fruit/veg, fresh water/milk.
We enjoy some teacher-led activities, including reading, nursery rhymes and songs.
After school club & hot tea. The children self serve a light cold tea and enjoy some free-play to end the day.
Throughout the week we enjoy a range of activities, including messy-play, arts and crafts, song-time and movement/dance, garden-play and cooking/baking with our Chef. We are also proud affiliates of Sing and Sign so on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm we have a Sing and Sign teacher visit to deliver a special sing and sign class for the children.
Our garden has a range of fun activities including sensory activities, mud kitchen and sandpit. We also consider seasonal trends so during summer months we explore subjects such as life cycles using real butterflies and growing and gardening.
Practitioners in the setting may also take the children to the local library as part of a day trip. This will be discussed with parents/carers and consent forms given before any trips occur. We will only take children on an outing if we have very high staffing to child ratios for their safety.
Every so often we may invite special visitors to the setting of all different occupations and professions. We do this to encourage children to learn about the local community and the wider world around them. Visitors may include people such as; librarians, firemen, policemen, dog safety talks, nurses and other occupations. We will inform families beforehand if we are planning to have a special visitor and all visits are under the supervision of the Hopscotch Team.
